Paris in Two Days

During August we had errands in Paris,
which we combined with family visitors who saw
many highlights of Paris in two short days.
Paris was having a heat wave making daytime sightseeing unbearable,
so we took a night bus to see the Champs Elysees monument,
and of course the Eiffel Tower.
Sunset at the Louvre pyramid.

The Catacombs are a less common landmark:
resting place for over 1 million,
with their neatly stacked skulls and bones.

Another way to honor the dead: the Paris Family Search Center,
walking distance from Notre Dame.

We stayed in a small apartment overlooking the Fontaine d'Innocents

Hotel de Salm, claimed to have inspired the U.S. White House design.

La Tour d'Argent is the restaurant with a wall of windows,
the movie Ratatouille is patterned after.

We stayed some extra days to go to the Paris Temple
and visit the nearby stake center in LeChesnay.

On Sunday we visited the Antony Ward in Paris
where we met early members who told of the ward's history.

The wording over the door:
"Aimez vous les uns les autres"
(Love One Another)

Elders Dunn and Schindler are now serving in the Antony Ward
where Jonathan served a few (50) years ago.

Church History Moment

One of the early members in the Antony Ward is a remarkable woman who was baptized in Guadaloupe and now serves in the Paris Temple and finds answers to her questions there. She also serves her community by helping the local Catholic church feed the homeless every week.

One day she and her son were talking to the Catholic priest, who asked why he wasn't in school. He answered that he was waiting for his mission call. The priest said, "I never knew you were Mormons! Your mother is always helping here, so I thought she was a Catholic. But now I need to show you something. I met your President Nelson."

He then scrolled through his phone and found a picture of when Pres Nelson gave the Pope a tour of the Rome Temple, and this priest had been with them. The priest then asked her to give a talk to his Catholic parish, to encourage them to serve the homeless as she had been doing.
