Ending up at the Tower

One unusual Sunday had no Church meetings until 6 pm
(due to General Conference in this time zone).
We took advantage of the beautiful morning
and went for a walk.

We have an apartment in the 15th Arrondisement
for the last 3 weeks of our mission.

Although there is enough to see in Paris to spend all 3 weeks as tourists,
    we filled our time with a fireside in Calais;

meeting early pioneer members of the Arras Ward;

renewing acquaintance with a woman Jonathan baptized 50 years ago;

taking the train to Rennes for a mission zone conference
where we showed our Church History display;

and fed the missionaries
including Elder Deane from Tahiti
whom we knew from Rodez.

Gerald and Sharlene Hansen are the pillars of strength
in the Angoulême Branch where they serve.
We had not seen them for several months,
but were happy to find them enjoying a branch temple day in Paris.

On our last Sunday in France,
we presented a fireside in Mantes-la-Jolie
about an hour outside Paris.

The next day we had a similar presentation,
but this time for a Single Adult Conference
at the Versailles stake center.

When this fireside was over,
we gave away several books so we didn't have to pack them,
drove our car to the mission office,
and got an Uber to the airport.

💕Farewell to France! 💕

FINAL CHURCH HISTORY MOMENT
Back in 1975, Mari-Ange and her friend had heard of the Church because of the Osmonds.
They saw a display Jonathan and his companion had set up in a shopping mall, recognized that the name of the Church was the same church the Osmonds belonged to, and wanted to know more.

However the address given led them to an apartment, which seemed too unusual for a church. They didn't know the Elders' apartment was the only place the branch had for church meetings. Jonathan was the Branch President and there were few members.

They kept thinking about it and one day they finally knocked. They started attending church and English classes, had the missionary lessons, and decided to get baptized.

Mari-Ange later met a returned missionary from France, and they eventually married. He moved to her small branch where he was made the branch president. They raised their family in the church,
were the first French couple to serve a senior mission, and are now temple workers.
