Preparation Nov 2024 to April 2025
Our call arrived on Nov 19, 2024, while we were driving from Waldport to deliver grandson Erik to Portland. We continued to Utah for Thanksgiving. We were excited to open the email and find the assignment we hoped for, and surprised we would have so much time to prepare, not leaving until next April.
But there was a lot to do, including applying for a France visa, arranging for care of our possessions, applying for international medical insurance, and most exciting -- starting to learn French with an online MTC Tutor.
In the intervening 5 months we drove to Texas to deliver our Sonata, register it in Texas and visit the French Consulate in Houston, arranged for offering our Waldport house as a vacation rental, visited Michelle, Emilia & Simon in Minnesota, returned to Texas for a second try at the consulate, obtained Texas driver licenses, got dental work and dermatologist visits done, made financial arrangements, and finished other necessary logistics.
We spoke in church in Waldport on December 29, and were set apart by Pres Britsch on March 17. Bishop Kelly Miller received our missionary plaque on April 3.
